How do we love Busy Philips? Let us count the ways.

The “Cougar Town” actress kept the world abreast of the activities in and around this year’s SAG Awards as the show’s “social media ambassador,” tweeting a fun play-by-play out to her ever-growing roster of Twitter fans. (And the expectant mom got major props from the fashion blogosphere for her curve-hugging gown.)

Though she’s been acting for nearly 15 years – with early roles in “Freaks and Geeks” and “Dawson’s Creek” – she seems to still be gaining new fans on a daily basis. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Ms. Philipps, here are our top eight reasons to jump on the Busy bandwagon.

She’s an entertaining – and self-deprecating – tweeter. We could go on forever about why it’s fun to follow the 33-year-old on Twitter but here are a few recent notable examples: After tweeting “Ernest Borgnine just stepped on my dress. No photo evidence,” from the red carpet of the SAG Awards, Philipps later shared her realization that she was wrong … dead wrong: “Guys, after the in memoriam segment, I realized I said Ernest Borgnine stepped on my train. Which would have been impossible. :(”she tweeted a few hours afterwards. And it’s nice to know that the actress gets starstuck just like the rest of us. “I just made eyes at Naomi Watts like I know her,” she posted from the show. “I totally don't but she's really pretty and talented!”

Busy and her BFF Michelle Williams. (Jeff Vespa/WireImage)

She’s BFF with Michelle Williams. The former “Dawson’s Creek” stars have stuck together through thick and thin over the years. And while it’s not always easy for busy working moms (no pun intended) to always make time for their gal pals, these two have made their friendship a top priority. Philipps has been Williams’ date for the Oscars multiple times (including this past year) and is godmother of Williams’ daughter, Matilda. The two even shared a vacation to Mexico over New Year’s with their significant others – Philipps’ husband, screenwriter Marc Silverstein, and Williams’ beau, Jason Segel.

She’s not afraid to indulge. The pregnant celeb found it funny that photogs felt it necessary to document her trip to a meatball shop, of all places, earlier this month. “It was crazy! I was in New York and I went to a meatball shop with my friend and there was paparazzi there and I thought, ‘How did you know that someone was gonna’ come to this meatball shop?’” she recently told E!’s Giuliana Rancic. “But I was pregnant and I wanted a meatball sub and let me tell you, it was delicious.”

She’s happy with her imperfections … and annoyed by those who aren’t. “After ‘Freaks and Geeks,’ I dealt with several producers who wanted to cover up all my beauty marks, every single mole on my body. They tried to cover them on my first two episodes of ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ and it just looked ridiculous, so I had to put my foot down. But it’s not something I’m insecure about,” she told omg! in January. “It’s something I get annoyed about, especially when other people are trying to erase one of my defining physical characteristics.”

Busy and Birdie.

She named her daughter Birdie. “After having grown up with a nickname, there is no way I’m naming my kid one thing and calling her something else,” Philipps, whose real name is Elizabeth, said during a 2010 appearance on “The Bonnie Hunt Show.” The actress and her hubby got the idea for the name after listening to a radio show focused on the late first lady Lady Bird Johnson. “My husband said, ‘Wow, what a cool woman and what an amazing name … it would be so cool to name a kid after her.” And after a little hesitation, they went with it. Birdie is now 4. “We didn’t name Birdie before she was born. When she came out I said, ‘I think we gotta go with Birdie, I think that’s her name.’”

She’s not one of those actresses who’s always insisting that being a mother is her “most important role.” We’ve heard one too many celebs insist that parenthood is the end-all, be-all and that nothing else matters once that little bundle of joy arrives. And so, apparently has Busy. I’ve read quotes before from actresses who say ‘Once I have my baby, it all falls away. Nothing is as important as my child.’ I think that’s a little false. I think if that is true then you’re putting way too much on your kid,” she told JimHalterman.com in 2009. “Birdie is amazing and such an incredible child and I’m having such a great time being a mom but I still want to have a career and I still look forward to auditions and parts and when I don’t get them I’m disappointed.”

She’s a committed gay rights advocate. Philipps recently shot a video for Human Rights Campaign’s Americans for Marriage Equality campaign and makes sure to teach her daughter to live by the golden rule. It’s ludicrous that my friends in California aren’t able to legally get married. It’s a civil rights issue,” she said in an interview with Advocate.com in January. “In 20 years we’re going to look back at tapes of these antigay people saying ridiculous things on the news and it’s going to sound as antiquated as the newsreels of horrible racists from the ’50s. Why is marriage equality important to me? Because I’m a decent human being.”

The fabled penguin cake. (Twitter)

She’s like a less-intimidating Martha Stewart. Normally we might be annoyed by any woman can who has time to come up with innovative crafts and makes complicated baking seem so easy, but Busy makes us want to try our hands at being domestic divas, too! Check out the dress she made her daughter out of a plastic Target bag. Or the igloo cake she whipped up the other day decorated with adorable penguins. We want to be invited to her next birthday party … please!
