It's a sad day for the Barrymore family. Drew Barrymore's older half-sister, Jessica Barrymore, was found dead in National City, California, early Tuesday morning, Yahoo confirmed. She was 47.

Jessica, who like Drew is the daughter of the late John Drew Barrymore, and her famous half-sibling weren't exactly close but that hardly means the Blended star isn't feeling the pangs of this tragedy.

"Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I'm so incredibly sorry for their loss," Drew, 39, said in a statement.

Jessica was found in her car surrounded by drugs.

National City local Oscar Sandoval recalled that Jessica had been parked in his neighborhood since around midnight the night before. "I thought she was sleeping or waiting for someone," he explained to local 10News, noting that when morning rolled around, her car was still there.

Around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, Marta Lopez tried to leave for work and discovered a car blocking her driveway. She went over to speak with the driver and found Jessica, who was lying back in a reclined seat with a SoBe energy drink between her legs and dozens of white pills scattered nearby.

Lopez told Jessica, "You need help; you need help," but reported that the woman was unresponsive and did not appear to be breathing. Lopez then called the police to the scene.

When police arrived, Jessica was cold to the touch and unresponsive, the National City Police Department confirmed to The Insider With Yahoo. When it was obvious she was deceased, the scene was bloked off and the medical examiner's office was called. The car has since been impounded for further investigation.

Though the official cause of death won't be officially known until an autopsy is completed, the many pills found beside her body indicate that she may have taken her own life.

In a cryptic last message on her Facebook page on July 28, Jessica shared a post from Mystera magazine that said, "Life doesn't always introduce you to the people you WANT to meet. Sometimes, life puts you in touch with the people you need to meet to Help You, to Hurt You, to Guide You, to Leave You, to Love You, and to gradually Strengthen You into the Person You Were Meant to Become."

We'll have to wait for the coroner's report for the official answer to what ended Jessica's life, but considering the fact that Drew herself faced (and overcame) a long-running battle with addiction, something tells us the loss of her half-sister is hitting her even closer to home.
