Drea de Matteo's Apartment Destroyed in East Village Explosion
Sopranos actress Drea de Matteo is among those who lost their homes Thursday after a massive fire destroyed three buildings in New York's East Village.
"NYC's finest trying to put out the flames to mine [and] many others' apartments," de Matteo captioned a photo of the blaze on Instagram. "Speechless."
The fire began in a sushi restaurant downstairs after construction workers supposedly hit a gas line. While no one has been confirmed to have died in the blast and subsequent fire, two people remain missing this morning according to the New York Times. (ABC 7 has surveillance video of the moment of the explosion.)
De Matteo also uploaded a shot of the void where her apartment building once stood at Second Avenue and East Seventh Street. "A hole where my NYC home of the last 22 years once stood," she wrote.
Both fashion designer Charlotte Ronson and Sophia Rossi regrammed de Matteo's picture. Rossi, a co-founder of Hello Giggles, wrote, "Such good memories living here with @chrissiemiller @hilarykoyfman @dreadematteo @cjronson," tagging Ronson, de Matteo, Chrissie Miller, and Hilary Koyfman. Ronson wrote, "Beyond devastating," alongside the pic, while Miller noted that she "lived there for 7 years and still have friends that live there and lost there home today."
Fortunately, all of these fashionable ladies are fine and none of them appears to have been in the building at the time of the explosion. However, 19 other people who were in the area at the time were taken to hospitals to be treated for various injuries as a result of the blast and fire.
