Daniel Craig Becomes Real-Life James Bond – With a New Aston Martin!

Yahoo Celebrity

Life is imitating art for Daniel Craig.

The "James Bond" star has a new car in his garage that is near and dear to his iconic character's heart: an Aston Martin Vantage Roadster.

Over the weekend, the £150,000 British luxury sports car (that's more than $223,000 in U.S. dollars) was personally delivered to his London home, leading some to speculate it was a belated birthday present. In photos, Craig -- who turned 45 on March 2 -- looks as giddy as a schoolboy as he checks out his shiny (and very red) new toy before signing on the dotted line.

It's unclear if Craig bought it for himself or if it was a gift from someone else, like his wife, Rachel Weisz, who has been away promoting her new film, "Oz: The Great and Powerful."

The Vantage Roadster certainly has a license to thrill. According to Aston Martin, the two-seater's body is comprised of aluminum, magnesium alloy, composite, and steel and has a six-speed manual transmission. It can go from 0-60 mph in a mere 4.7 seconds and can max out at 180 mph … although the speedometer goes all the way up to 220 mph.

The Aston Martin is a favorite of James Bond's and was first introduced in 1964's "Goldfinger," the third installment in the six-decade spanning film series. Since then, five different models have been featured in 11 movies ... and counting.

Craig's debut as Bond in 2006's "Casino Royale" unveiled a brand new Aston Martin to the world: the DBS V12. The actor also zipped around in another model, the DB5, making the film the first time to feature two Aston Martins, according to the company. Bond's DBS had a secret compartment for his Walther P99 gun and an emergency medical kit that housed various poisons and a small defibrillator.

In Craig's second Bond flick, 2008's "Quantum of Solace," the Aston Martin DBS V12 opened the film with a memorable high-speed chase in Siena, Italy. Heartbreaking for car lovers everywhere, six Aston Martins were destroyed during filming.

And in Craig's most recent Bond film, last year’s "Skyfall," the DB5 returned (with Craig, of course, behind the wheel) for its sixth appearance. This version, which was later wrecked, featured an ejector seat and two front-firing machine guns.

Enjoy your new car, Daniel Craig … after all, you only live twice.
