Becks in his undies (H&M)

The sports world took a hit Tuesday when David Beckham announced his retirement from soccer, the sport that made him an international superstar.

However, the female world rejoiced with the hope that this might mean Becks has more time to shoot those infamous underwear campaigns.

"I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level," Beckham, 38, who spent his last season playing for Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) club, said in a statement.

The legendary midfielder, who won championships in France with PSG, England with Manchester United, Spain with Real Madrid, and in the U.S. with the Los Angeles Galaxy, became one of the highest-paid people in sports – making $50.6 million last year alone.

Beckham also praised his family in the statement. "I wouldn't have achieved what I have done today without my family," said the soccer star who has three boys – Brooklyn, 14, Romeo, 10, and Cruz, 8 – as well as a 1-year-old daughter, Harper, with wife Victoria.

"I owe everything to Victoria and the kids, who have given me the inspiration and support to play at the highest level for such a long period," he gushed.

Over the years, the star, who married then-Spice Girl Victoria in 1999 and is managed by "American Idol" creator Simon Fuller, supplemented his substantial sporting salary (a reported $6.5 million a year) with massive endorsement deals with companies like Adidas, Burger King, and Samsung and underwear campaigns with Emporio Armani and H&M.

While no upcoming underwear shoots have yet been announced (though we're keeping our fingers crossed now that he’s about to have some free time on his hands!), we’re happy to settle for an uptick in photos of the Becks with his adorable (and just-as-genetically-blessed) family in tow … and watching his Bodywear for H&M commercial on repeat.
