The celebrity swatting trend picked back up this week, with none other than chair-talking aficionado Clint Eastwood as the latest target.
The LAPD tells omg! that, "On Monday, February 18, at around 11 a.m., our officers were called from our West LA division for reports of assault with a deadly weapon, to the home of Mr. Eastwood. Our officers arrived, looked at the premise, and left after realizing that everything was locked and secure."
TMZ first reported news of the incident.
An LAPD media relations spokesperson further explained that there is now, "an ongoing investigation of 911 abuse. The detectives do follow up extensively. It’s a very serious issue because you’re pulling out significant resources to meet the community’s needs in responding to these cases.”
Celebrity swatting has been relatively quiet in the last few weeks. The most recent incident was exactly one month ago, on January 21, at the home of singer Chris Brown.
Two weeks ago, a 12-year-old boy who had been arrested last December for two “swatting” charges — including one incident at the home of Ashton Kutcher — was charged on two felony counts of making false bomb threats and computer intrusion.
During that hearing, the District Attorney pointed out that the LAPD has been investigating the crime spree in conjunction with the FBI.
omg! has reached out to law enforcement officials at the LAPD and LASD about the reported Eastwood incident, but has not yet heard back at this time.
We just hope everyone involved got off Eastwood’s lawn in time.
