Beyoncé has certainly caught the holiday spirit!
Or maybe she’s just found a positive way to channel her anger?
Either way, shoppers at a Walmart store in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, received quite a surprise on Friday night! Before performing at the TD Garden in Boston, Bey popped in, picked up a few toys for her 23-month-old daughter, and handed out $50 gift cards to 750 lucky customers, CBS's Boston affiliate reports.
The store manager told Us Weekly that $37,500 worth of gift cards were enclosed within envelopes that read, "Happy Holidays from Beyoncé."
One shopper documented his encounter with the superstar on Instagram. "Beyonce just hit up wal mart and purchased everyone in the store $50 gift cards," @mrldavis captioned a photo of the "XO" singer he snapped while in the store. "Beyonce for president.”
Interestingly enough, Mrs. Carter, 32, made the generous shopping trip on the heels of Walmart competitor Target’s decision that it would not sell the self-titled album she released with no forewarning earlier this month.
Target explained its decision in a statement released on Monday. “At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections,” spokeswoman Erica Julkowski said. “While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyoncé in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyoncé’s new self-titled album ‘Beyoncé.’”
Not that Beyoncé needs Target’s help. Her latest collection of songs, which was available exclusively through iTunes until Dec. 20, sold more than 1 million copies worldwide in its first week and debuted in the top spot of the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart.
