Amanda Bynes's mental condition is a lot more serious than you might think.

Bynes's lawyer, Gerald Shargel, was in a New York court on Thursday stemming from her May arrest where she allegedly threw a bong out the window of her 36th floor apartment. Shargel asked the judge for a postponement for "a year up to 18 months" while Amanda seeks psychiatric treatment in California.

"She's in a hospital in California. It’s uncertain when she will be released," Shargel told Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Diana Boyar.

Bynes was charged with tampering with evidence, reckless endangerment, and possession of marijuana following her arrest last spring.

The 27-year-old child star is currently seeking treatment at a psychiatric hospital in California and is reportedly unfit to stand trial. She was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday regarding her DUI arrest in West Hollywood, California, in April 2012.

Amanda's mom, Lynn, was due in court on Monday to make the temporary conservatorship she has over her daughter permanent, but according to reports, has dropped the case as Bynes is currently on a mental health (LPS) hold.
