Amanda Bynes Arrested in New York City

UPDATE: On Friday morning, Amanda Bynes appeared in court and was charged with three misdemeanor counts.

According to People, just after 11 a.m. EDT, she took the stand and acknowledged that she lived in New York City. In court, her New York attorney, Andrew Friedman, said his client denies the charges of throwing a bong out of a window and that she claims police illegally followed her into her apartment.

Judge Neil Ross waived bail, but told Bynes that if she was arrested again or failed to return to court for her next appearance, he would "set a significant bail."

She was released on her own recognizance and her next court date is set for July 9.


Former actress Amanda Bynes, who has made headlines dozens of times in recent months for erratic behavior, was arrested at her apartment in New York City on Thursday for reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, and physical possession of marijuana, law enforcement authorities confirm to "omg! Insider."

According to WNBC, officers were called to her Midtown Manhattan West 47th Street apartment following following a report that a disorderly person on the premises. The doorman reported that she was smoking marijuana in the lobby, but when police arrived, she had gone back to her apartment on the 36th floor. The actress was wearing the same blond wig at the time of her arrest that she's been seen wearing around town frequently.

Officers reportedly headed to her apartment and observed a marijuana-smoking bong as Bynes opened the door to answer. She allegedly then tossed the bong out the window. Officers reported a "heavy" smell of marijuana in the apartment.

She was then reportedly taken to Roosevelt Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation before heading to a Midtown police station for processing, according to sources.

Bynes remains under probation for driving in California with a suspended license, and still faces a pending suspicion of DUI case in Beverly Hills, Calif. Omg! spoke with a source close to the former Nickelodeon star who says she sounded "wasted" and "out of it" on Thursday night. The source adds that she faces big legal problems since she just pled no contest in Burbank, Calif. last week, and this arrest is a probation violation. 

All of this comes during a particularly troubled week for the actress who threatened to sue In Touch Weekly magazine for a cover story that she claims was riddled with lies. Bynes tweeted Wednesday morning:

All of Amanda's claims pertaining to the photos in this week's In Touch are false."

According to TMZ, she was also rejected from boarding a private plane in Teterboro Airport in New Jersey over this past weekend for not having proper government issued ID.
