Oh say can you see, indeed!

Alicia Keys officially made talk of lip-synching the National Anthem old news after she belted out her own jazzy rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” to open Super Bowl XLVII Sunday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Wearing a long, red sleeveless gown and minimal makeup, the 32-year-old Grammy winner took her time singing the fabled tune as she accompanied herself on the piano, the first person to do so at the Super Bowl since Billy Joel back in 2007.

And for those keeping track at home (or betting on the matter), the performance lasted approximately 2 minutes and 32 seconds. Needless to say, that’s significantly longer than expected … but few fans are complaining as you can see from some of the Twitter reactions below.

“Alicia Keys. Take your time girl. Bring it home,” tweeted @clarencehilljr.

“Alicia Keys is a beast,” remarked @CAPITALJR.

“Beyonce imma let you finish but Alicia Keys sang one of the best national anthems of all time,” joked @danaetaylorgang.

Prior to Keys taking to the mic, Jennifer Hudson joined a group of students from the Sandy Hook Elementary School Chorus in Newtown, Connecticut, to sing “America the Beautiful.” The kids swayed along with the 31-year-old Oscar winner while wearing matching green ribbons in honor of their classmates who lost their lives in the massacre only a few weeks ago.

Between the two performances, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house – tears streamed down many faces, especially those of the players. Whether it was Keys or those kids who brought the waterworks on, who doesn’t love to see big, burly men crying?
