Time flies when you’re having fun and, from the looks of things, the last year of George and Amal Clooney’s lives must have gone by in a wink. As they celebrate their first wedding anniversary this weekend, here’s a look back at how they spent their first year as husband and wife.

September 2014

George and Amal Clooney (née Alamuddin) were married on Sept. 27 in Venice, Italy. It was a beautiful and star-studded affair. But it was back to work to both shortly after.

October 2014

In October, Amal traveled to Greece to advise the prime minister on how to recover the Elgin Marbles, a group of ancient Greek statues which were taken from the Acropolis 200 years ago and are currently on display at the British Museum in London. George apologized for Batman & Robin.

November 2014

Then, Amal shifted her focus to Egypt, where she was defending Mohamed Fahmy, one of three Al Jazeera journalists jailed for alleged terrorist activities. She also took Canadian governmental officials to task for their silence on Fahmy, who is a Canadian citizen. Her husband, George, denied rumors that the couple was looking to adopt a baby so that he could be a stay-at-home dad.

December 2014

At the end of the year, Amal Clooney was named the most fascinating person of the year by Barbara Walters. Meanwhile, George filmed an appearance on Downton Abbey.

January 2015

In addition to arguing for Fahmy’s release in Egypt, Amal took on a new case in January: this one relating to the Armenian Genocide. Clooney is defending Armenia in front of the European Court of Human Rights, where they are appealing a 2013 ruling by the court which found a Swiss law prohibiting Turkish government officials from denying the genocide. That same month, Amal accompanied her husband to some lame work party called the Golden Globes.

February 2015

In February, the Clooneys celebrated their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, Amal also turned 37 on the 3rd. While George was busy building a panic room for his fearless wife, Amal was taking on a new case. This time, she set out to prove former British Prime Minister Edward Heath authorized the torture of 10 “hooded men” by the British Royal Army in 1971.

March 2015

As the weather warmed up and New York actually became livable again, Mrs. Clooney agreed to teach for a semester at Columbia Law School. At a charity event, George said it best: “My wife’s the smart one.”

April 2015

In addition to filming his new movie Money Monster, Clooney hopefully spent April training for the marathon which he’ll be running next year, after losing a bet with Christy Turlington. Amal, who has no time for parlor games or friendly wagers, joined the legal team of the Maldives’s former president Mohamed Nasheed, who was removed from power in a coup d'etat and jailed.

May 2015

In May, George’s new film Tomorrowland was released. He spent the entire press tour talking about the real celebrity, Amal.

June 2015

For a work trip, Amal went to British Parliament where she implored Prime Minister David Cameron to put pressure on the government of the Maldives to release Nasheed from house arrest. For a vacation, George brought Amal to… Kentucky.

July 2015

The Clooneys spent much of July in Italy, where they celebrated the Fourth of July. As Amal continued to fight to free imprisoned journalists and world leaders, George promoted his tequila brand, Casamigos.

August 2015

In August, Nasheed was sent back to prison and Amal got to work on getting him out. George photobombed Cindy Crawford.

September 2015

While Amal spent the beginning of the month in the Maldives, George did his best Diane Lane in The Perfect Storm saying that, yes, he did worry about Amal when her job put her in harm’s way: “It’s tough when they’re stabbing her co-counselor [defense lawyer Mahfooz Saeed] in the head a couple days before she gets there. It’s a little nerve wracking. But she’s doing the right thing and she’s doing it for the right reasons.”

Happy anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Clooney.
