Matthew McConaughey goes back to gym class

He wasn't shirtless, but Matthew McConaughey still managed to prove he's fit as a fiddle when he took part in an event in Venice, California, on Wednesday to kick off Procter & Gamble's GIVE Education campaign, focused on raising funds for the high school dropout prevention group Communities in Schools.

Prior to the event's press conference, held at Venice High School (which, movie buffs may know, served as the backdrop for the film "Grease"), McConaughey led a gaggle of students through an exercise drill. The "Lincoln Lawyer" star looked to be having plenty of fun as he donned a T-shirt, workout pants, and sneakers, jumped rope, and did sit-ups, push-ups, and squats with the kids.

So how did McConaughey get involved? The 42-old already has his j.k. livin' foundation (which stands for "just keep livin'), which concentrates on encouraging teenagers to live active lives and make healthy choices, and says he wanted to stress the importance of mentoring kids, especially those in the all-important teen years.

"I thought about my own life and I started talking to kids and I was like, what's the last stand, sort of the last bastion where you can get to kids where they're still having to go home and they still have a principal telling them what to do, and they have to follow certain rules, but shortly thereafter, they're on their own. And it was high school," the dad of two (soon to be three!) told "Entertainment Tonight."

And in case you're wondering if McConaughey is maybe overdoing it in the fitness department and thinking he might be looking a little too thin these days, not to worry. His dramatic weight loss is just for an upcoming film, "The Dallas Buyer's Club," in which he'll play Ron Woodruff, a real-life Texas electrician who is diagnosed with AIDS and begins smuggling lifesaving drugs. And skinnier days are ahead for the actor. He's reportedly only halfway there, dropping 15 pounds so far, with 15 more to go before he starts shooting. Keep jumping rope, Matt!
