TV’s Most Iconic Fashionistas

We've always wished we could sneak into the closets of our favorite small-screen actresses with impeccable fashion sense. And while most of us couldn't pull off Cher's revealing Bob Mackie classics, we could dare to wear a groovy jumpsuit, risk a thigh-baring micro-mini, or get our hair cut just so.

These days there is no shortage of fashion-forward women on TV. Here are our favorites of the last five decades -- from iconic characters like Emma Peel to real-life fashionista Lauren Conrad -- who've inspired us to look our best.

See TV Fashionistas Through the Years

The Girls on "Gossip Girl"
"Gossip Girl" fashion isn't all about the designer labels (although it's A LOT about the designer labels). The show takes the image of the naughty schoolgirl to a whole new level. If we'd hemmed our St. Francis of Assisi uniforms as high as Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) does, the nuns would have sent us home with a note to our mothers.

Lauren Conrad on "The Hills"
The star of "The Hills" is a student at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. She's made headbands chic again and even has her own clothing line... What?... Oh, until a few days ago, she had her own clothing line. But in light of the current economic climate, Lauren says she's stopped shipments in order to "rethink her line." Could she be going the SJP route to make more affordable clothes for the everyday woman? No, according to her rep, she's going with high-end fabrics for a couture line. What will Lo and Audrina wear?

The Women of "Sex and the City"
The "Sex and the City" gals had fashion styles as distinct as their personalities. Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) was the risk-taker, game for anything. Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) was bold, sexy, and confident. Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) brought a chic flair to conventional office clothes. And Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) telegraphed her romantic nature even while always maintaining a conservative Park Avenue look.

Alexis Carrington Colby (Joan Collins) and Krystle Carrington (Linda Evans) on "Dynasty"
Their contribution to TV fashion history can be summed up in two words: shoulder pads. Alexis Carrington Colby and Krystle Carrington wore dresses with lines that were ultra-soft and feminine, and their gowns were often tricked out with oh-so-girly glitter. So why not butch them up with linebacker-worthy shoulder pads? We can't imagine why this style didn't last.

Ann Marie (Marlo Thomas) on "That Girl"
Diamonds, daisies, snowflakes. "That Girl." She was, indeed, tinsel on a tree.Marlo Thomas inspired us with her bold colors, eye-popping tights, tastefully playful hemlines, and the greatest flip in the history of TVhairstyles. Her look made you want to be that girl too ... and make themove to Manhattan where you'd date a sweet guy like Donald Hollingerand follow your crazy dreams to the Great White Way.

Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) on "Friends"
Whoknows what Rachel Green wore from the neck down? We certainly don't remember. But there's never been a more memorable haircut than "The Rachel."Silky and shiny, with straight, face-framing layers and a little kickat the neck, it was the kind of cut that would make cute guys ask, "Howyou doin'?"

Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper) on "Rhoda"
Rhoda Morgenstern: fashion icon? Let's start by reminding you it was the '70s. You're asking yourself, didn't every single girl on TV at the time sport sweater vests and elephant leg pants? Sure. But you must admit that Rhoda wore that head scarf better than anyone else.

Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) on "The Avengers"Talk about groovy, baby. Emma Peel fought crime in the coolest of '60s mod fashions. Skin-tight jumpsuits, bright colors, and geometric patterns that made you want to jet across the Pond, hop on a double-decker bus, and live the swinging '60s lifestyle.

Ally McBeal (Calista Flockhart) on "Ally McBeal"
Whyshe wasn't held in contempt of court for her short, short skirts, we'llnever understand. But somehow, Ally McBeal made micro-minis that justbrushed the top of the thigh seem like respectable businessattire.
