Maggie Gyllenhaal: ‘Fashionably Natural’

That plate of edamame you shared over a sushi dinner could have very well been made into a hip, earth-friendly t-shirt and no one is more amazed about that than "The Dark Knight" leading lady Maggie Gyllenhaal. Last night, Maggie helped kick off LA Fashion Week as she took on hosting duties at the Gen Art & SoyJoy Fashionably Natural runway show featuring the work of four eco-fashion designers. The show took place on the second floor of the Petersen Automotive Museum, which was decorated with kitschy art and presentation booths boasting the many uses of soy -- food, clothing, fuel, ink, the list goes on and on.

"Look at all the cute girls in short skirts," Maggie pointed out as she opened the show and then promptly took her front row seat. Also spotted up front were Krysten Ritter ("Confessions of a Shopaholic") wearing a vibrant purple shift dress and upcoming "Gossip Girl" guest star Willa Holland (aka mini-Coop on "The O.C."), who was casually cool in a leather biker jacket. I was most surprised to see a cleaned-up, dare I say dapper-looking Jason Wahler -- who's definitely not keeping in touch with LC and the rest of "The Hills" gang -- enjoying a cocktail with his fiancee.

The catwalk was brimming with frocks and jumpsuits made entirely from organic, recycled, and sustainable textiles of bamboo, soy, and non-pesticide cottons. I spoke to Willa after the show who said she was most impressed by the geometric, mod-like cutout dresses from Velvet Leaf, but she may have been a bit biased as she's good friends with the line's designers Laura and Becky Carter.
