Lauren Conrad: Dressed for Success?

Of Lauren Conrad's many "professions," I'd rank her reality queen first, red carpet regular second, and celebrity designer a distant third. But it appears Hollywood has more faith in her fashion future than I do.

The 22-year-old, who launched the Lauren Conrad Collection last March, has been tapped to design the gowns worn by the trophy girls at the 60th Primetime Emmys in September. Lauren is also presenting an award during the show. Of course, "The Hills" star is honored and excited by the request, but can she pull it off?

So far, her clothing line has been limited to simple, ready-to-wear separates and dresses, but designing a couture look, as "Project Runway" fans know, can be daunting. Regardless, LC's confident she'll be able to pull together "a red carpet look that still reflects the simple classic design of the Lauren Conrad Collection but with a black tie twist."

Established designers like Sue Wong have been skeptical of Lauren's ability. Wong didn't mince words during L.A. Fashion Week, saying she didn't believe in "reality TV stars turning into designers."

I'll reserve my judgment until I actually see her Emmy gown, but I'm expecting to be disappointed with something basic in black.
