The Kardashian Women on Working, Weight, and Wanting Babies

When "Keeping Up With the Kardashians"premiered three and a half years ago, the cable reality show about a blendedfamily -- including OJ Simpson's lawyer's ex-wife, her new, former Olympianhusband, and a bunch of not-exactly-A-list daughters -- didn't seem like it wasnecessarily a million-dollar idea. Turns out it was a $65-million-dollar idea.Since the series debuted, not only have the Kardashians and their significantothers become household names, but sisters Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe now havefour TV shows, two perfumes, multiple ad campaigns, and a chain of boutiquesbetween them, which adds up to an estimated $65 million a year. So to those whosay the Kardashians are just a bunch of socialites who've become famous forbeing famous, 55-year-old matriarch Kris Jenner has a response.

"It's annoying when I hear, 'What do your girls do?'Well, first of all, all of my daughters have jobs. They are fashion stylistsand designers; they own a chain of stores. They had the stores before they hadthe show. And my kids worked from the time they were 13 years old. So to me,that's a huge misconception -- that the girls don't work. They work 25 hours aday," she tells Redbook as part of a family interviewfor the magazine's May issue. "And that they don't have any talent? Theymight not be singers or dancers, but they certainly know how to produce atelevision show. Whether you want to call it talent or not, they have multipleshows on the air. [I want to say,] 'How many shows do you have?'"

Though having TV cameras follow you everywhere you go(even to the bedroom) seems like it would get old fast, all of the Kardashianwomen insist they have no problem living their lives in front of the wholeworld, and what viewers see is what they get. "There's nothing I'm reallyashamed of, and I work hard on the show and all my other projects," says30-year-old Kim. "I don't drink or do drugs, so I'm comfortable showingthe world what my life is all about."

But they also admit there's a downside. For eldest sisterKourtney, who has a 15-month-old son Mason -- and an often rocky relationship-- with boyfriend Scott Disick, that downside can be fans' assumption that theyknow exactly what she wants. "Once Scott and I were in New York, andsomeone screamed, 'Oh, Kourtney, I love you ... Scott, I hate you!' People thinkthat's what I want to hear, that they're on my side. And I'm like, 'Nooo, that's the father of my child,'" she recalls. "Kim says people comeup to her all the time and say, 'Oh, I hate Scott,' and she'll say, 'How dareyou talk about him that way!' It took a lot for Scott and me not to care aboutother people's opinions."

As for 26-year-old Khloe, who married L.A. Lakers starLamar Odom in 2009 (the couple's own reality series, "Khloe &Lamar," premieres April 10), she's had to work on getting past the public'sinterest in her life ... and weight. "No one can prepare you for that kindof media scrutiny -- millions of people feeling like they have the right totell you if you're too fat or too skinny or too tall or too this or too that.I've been compared to my sisters my whole life, but my mom has always said,'You're the tall one, and everyone loves to be tall,'" explains Khloe, whois 5'10" and towers over sisters Kim and Kourtney, who are 5'2" and5' respectively. "My husband is so obsessed with my body; he loves it. Hethinks my curves are womanly. Do I have days where my weight issues eat away atme and I get depressed? Of course. But they don't last long. I'm not perfect.Just because I'm on TV, people think that I have 24/7 access to trainers andnutritionists. Oftentimes I don't have the time or want to spend the money todo all that."

And while the Odoms may be ready to have a baby, perpetual pregnancy rumors can be stressful, too. "It's crazy. And Ialmost feel like I disappoint people when I don't announce I'm pregnant. I'mlike, 'Stop with all the pressure.' I find it very flattering that people careso much, and I want a baby, too, but it has to happen when it's time, and it'sin God's hands," she says. "I'm young; I'm 26, and I've only beenmarried a year and a half. And it's not that we're not trying to have a baby --it's just that we don't want to time it and take the fun out of it."
