In the latest issue of Fashion Rocks, Justin Timberlake talks about his personal style, William Rast (the fashion line that he started up with his best friend, Trace Ayala), and trucker hats. Personally, I loathe the trucker hat look. Unless you're riding a tractor or sitting behind the wheel of a big rig, you have no business wearing one. That's why I was so confused when everyone began sporting the mesh caps back in 2002 -- and even more confused by the fact that Justin wants to stake claim to starting the terrible trend. Or did he?

"It's funny, I keep hearing Ashton Kutcher say how he was responsible for trucker caps," says Justin. "I've heard him make that statement before. Trace and I were wearing them when we were 17."
That is funny. Surely Mr. SexyBack must be joking. Then again, maybe he's still bitter over the classic "Punk'd" episode where Ashton tricked him into thinking that the IRS was confiscating his mansion and all of his belongings for back taxes. Regardless, I decided I needed to get Kutcher's take on this important trucker hat matter.
After I read Ashton JT's quote, he laughs. "When did I do that? I don't think I ever did, did I? I remember going on 'Ellen' and giving [trucker hat] credit to a friend of mine that I ripped it off from, but it wasn't Justin Timberlake. Considering that I'm from Iowa and CRST trucking [among other trucking companies] is also in Iowa, I feel I most likely wore a trucker hat before he did. And I know he's from Tennessee, but I probably had a leg up [on him] due to the fact that I grew up on a farm where it was not considered cool to be wearing a trucker hat."
"I think it's hilarious that we're arguing over who started one of the worst fads in human history," Ashton continues. "Frankly, let him have it. Let him have it! I would like to publicly make an announcement on Yahoo! that Justin Timberlake is responsible for the trucker hat. I, however, did not steal [the look] from him directly. I probably stole it from someone who stole it from him. Either that or I just wore a hat one day that I liked and other people liked it."
Even though Ashton gave Justin this one, if "Punk'd" ever comes back to the airwaves the singer better watch his back. "I may have a little pent up aggression based on the trucker hat thing, and the 'Saturday Night Live' spoof [where Justin impersonated Ashton], which I'm still not too happy about!" warns Kutcher.
