Diane Kruger: ‘I Don’t Believe in Marriage’

Diane Kruger has a wardrobe to die for, a slate of promising new films on the horizon, and a cute boyfriend, whom she reveals she has no plans to marry in the latest issue of Glamour magazine.

Dating "Fringe" star Joshua Jackson since 2006, Kruger was previously married to French actor and director Guillaume Canet, who is now expecting his first child with "Inception" actress Marion Cottilard. "I was married very young [to Canet]," says Kruger, who is now 34. "We were together seven years. Without sounding pessimistic, I learned that I don't believe in marriage. I believe in a commitment that you make in your heart. There's no paper that will make you stay. A guy friend of mine said, and it made a lot of sense, that people should get married at the end of the road, not the beginning."

Although she doesn't necessarily want to put a ring on it, sorry ladies, it does sound like she and Jackson are in it for the long haul. When asked if she wants to have babies with the former "Dawson's Creek" heartthrob, Kruger replies, "I do. When the time is right."

Diane Kruger's Best Style Moments

Since Jackson is looking pretty suave these days, it's clear his girlfriend's fashion influence is rubbing off on him. "We go shopping, but he likes it," notes Kruger, adding, "I definitely wasn't fond of these blue sneakers that he wore all the time for about a year and a half."

A former fashion model, Kruger first hit the big time in the U.S. thanks to her role as Helen of Troy in the 2004 Brad Pitt swords and sandals epic "Troy." Since then, she's gone on to star in an eclectic mix of cheesy blockbusters ("National Treasure") and critical darlings ("Inglourious Basterds"), but in fashionable circles, Kruger, who'll next hit the big screen in the thriller "Unknown," on February 18, is most revered for her innate sense of style. For the actress, when it comes to fashion, "Less is more. The thing I despise most is vulgarity, and there's a lot of that here [in L.A.]."

Unlike most Hollywood stars, Kruger doesn't have a stylist to dress her for every appearance, relying instead on her own eye when it comes to red carpet ensembles. "I truly, genuinely like clothes," says Kruger. "Making them is an art form, and wearing them is a form of self-expression. I find it very emotional because I can remember moments in my life -- my mood, how I felt -- through these clothes."

And though she may be bringing in some nice paychecks these days, the girl who hails from a small village in Germany still understands the value of a dollar. "The biggest fashion purchase I ever made I thought about for six years," reveals Kruger, adding with a laugh, "I'm not kidding. All my life I wanted to own an Hermes Constance bag, and when I signed with Calvin Klein, I decided this was the time that I could afford it. I truly broke a sweat when I paid for it."
