Last night on the "X Factor" finale, Carly Rose Sonenclar finished second to Tate Stevens. While Tate's victory was well-earned, many viewers are wondering if Carly's duet with LeAnn Rimes was to blame for her loss.
On Wednesday, Carly and LeAnn performed "How Do I Live?" While Carly got off to a strong start, the performance started to unravel as soon as LeAnn joined her on stage (nearly tripping down the stairs on the way).
LeAnn appeared a bit loopy, causing viewers to wonder if she had been drunk during the performance. The chemistry also seemed a bit off. It seemed like LeAnn was trying to out-sing Carly. And although Carly maintained a smile, she was visibly annoyed.
Does LeAnn Blame Carly?
While "Carly's Angels" blame LeAnn for ruining and butchering the duet, LeAnn is allegedly turning the tables by blaming Carly!
According to a quote from her rep, LeAnn insists that she was not drunk, and that any awkwardness during the performance was due to Carly's nerves. "I was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song."
LeAnn denies making those statements.
As she tweets, "In my 18 years of performing, I have never been anything but professional onstage. It is a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly, a very talented young girl. And while I have not given any media outlet a quote, if you want one, here it is 'It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I'll be watching for her to win tonight.'"
Carly's Family Blames LeAnn
While LeAnn is trying to make nice on Twitter, Carly's family doesn't seem to be buying it. Apparently, they allegedly are none to pleased with LeAnn for throwing Carly under the bus, and trashing her performance, when it was clear that Carly had out-sung her that night.
Was LeAnn Responsible for Carly's Loss on 'X Factor'?
Was LeAnn really responsible for Carly's loss? On the one hand, that train wreck performance certainly didn't help. Much of the finale voting depends on casual viewers who may not have a specific favorite contestant. While Carly's die-hard fans would have voted for her regardless, she probably lost a lot of votes from casual viewers who tend to vote on individual performances.
On the other hand, Carly already had several significant disadvantages going into the finale. First of all, she was coming off a bit of an off-week with her performances of "Your Song" and "Imagine." Second, Fifth Harmony and Carly very likely split the votes during the finale because they appealed to similar demographics.
Was LeAnn to blame for Carly's loss at the "X Factor" finale? Was she really drunk during that performance or was she just having an off night? Do you think that LeAnn intentionally tried to sabotage Carly?
