Surprise Film Named As ‘Best Of All Time’ In Actors’ Poll

A panel of actors have named their favourite movie of all time… and refreshingly, it’s not your usual ‘Godfather II/Citizen Kane’ type choice either (though one of those does feature).

Time Out New York polled a group of 73 actors to name their top movies, and the winner is… (drum roll please)…

- Worst Movie Photoshop Fails
- Mystery over Liam Neeson’s weight loss
- Tom Cruise’s epic lip syncing

…Dustin Hoffman’s classic 1982 comedy drama 'Tootsie’.

Among the actors involved in making the choice were the likes of Bill Hader, Cillian Murphy, Juliette Binoche, Haley Joel Osment, Anthony Mackie, Michael Sheen and Andy Serkis.

Each chose their top 10, with the star-studded, Sydney Pollack-directed movie about an out-of-work actor who cross-dresses to get a job on a soap coming out on top.

Here’s the top 10 in full:

1. 'Tootsie’
2. 'The Godfather’
3. 'A Woman Under the Influence’
4. 'Cinema Paradiso’
5. 'To Kill a Mockingbird’
6. 'The Godfather Part II’
7. 'Annie Hall’
8. 'Boogie Nights’
9. 'The Red Shoes’
10. 'Taxi Driver’

The poll differs rather radically from the top 100 greatest American movies of all time poll, which was revealed by the BBC last week.

Though focussing on US movies only, still, it put 'Citizen Kane’ in the top slot from its pool of critics’ choices, with 'Tootsie’ not featuring at all.

Also among those polled for Time Out were Riz Ahmed, Romola Garai, Michael C. Hall, Celia Imrie, Nick Kroll, Lesley Manville, Reece Sheersmith and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
