The country singer has been nominated for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for "I Knew You Were Trouble."
After the big announcement, Swifty took the opportunity to ask for votes, and to take a subtle dig at her sometimes nemesis, Kanye West.
As Taylor tweeted, "Two VMA nominations!! If you vote and get us one, I promise to keep a firmer grip on the mic this time ;)"
Their Ongoing Feud
The 23-year-old, of course, is referring to the infamous incident at the 2009 VMAs. After winning the Best Video of the Year award, Kanye interrupted her acceptance speech to tell the audience that Beyonce had "one of the best videos of all time!"
Although Kanye apologized for the incident, he seems to have recanted his apology. This month, he told the New York Times, "I don't have one regret...If anyone's reading this waiting for some type of full-on, flat apology for anything, they should just stop reading right now."
The "Watch the Throne" rapper also suggested that he had given into peer pressure to apologize. "Yeah, I think that I have like, faltered, you know, as a human. My message isn't perfectly defined. I have, as a human being, fallen to peer pressure."
Should Taylor Be Taking Digs At Kanye?
On the one hand, the "22" singer's beef with the rapper is completely understandable, especially given that he took back his apology.
Still, it seems like she should just it go already. She has millions of fans worldwide. She's selling records and winning awards, and the public was clearly on her side after the 2009 incident. So why re-engage in a petty feud? Why not let her success speak for itself?
Besides, I'm not sure that Taylor is in the best position to be taking digs at other artists. In the past, she's shown that she can't take a joke herself.
During the 2013 Golden Globes, comediennes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler poked fun at the country cutie's dating history, and joked that she should stay away from Michael J. Fox's son. Instead of being a good sport and being able to laugh at herself, she responded, "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women."
Taylor needs to develop a thicker skin. I'm all for a good Kanye ribbing, but if she wants to dish it out, she might want to learn how to take a joke herself.
