‘The View’s’ Nicolle Wallace, Rosie Perez May Not Return for Season 19

“The View” just added a new co-host, but may soon lose one or even two others.

Regular panelists Nicolle Wallace and Rosie Perez may not return this fall for Season 19. The result could be both personalities leaving, one or the other departing, or even neither leaving, as conversations have just begun, an insider told TheWrap Thursday.

Don’t feel bad for Wallace though if the show’s resident Republican does not return. Wallace has another job at MSNBC, where she would be very valuable in 2016, an election year. Speculation has been that Wallace has not been conservative enough or outspoken enough to even unofficially replace Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

For her part, Perez has had a resurgence of sorts in popularity, which may keep her on the show, according to the insider. That said, she made headlines for departing “The View” in January to rehearse for the Broadway production of the Larry David play, “Fish in the Dark.” She returned in February. The play is still going strong.

During her absence, TheWrap reported that ABC was considering booting Perez — who joined “The View” in September — from the show. An insider told TheWrap during that month hiatus that ABC concluded the panel skews too old, and was viewing possible replacements for Perez. At the time, “Glee” alum Naya Rivera and “Orange Is the New Black” star Laverne Cox were the mix.

ABC had no comment on the possible departures.

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg and newest cast member Raven-Symone are returning for Season 19, as is Executive Producer Bill Wolff.

No matter what happens with Wallace and Perez, there likely won’t be five women set in stone anytime soon. As TheWrap previously reported, “The View” is setting up a stable for permanent rotating contributors, likely including common guest hosts Molly Sims and Michelle Collins.

Guest co-hosts have been a familiar sight on “The View” since Rosie O’Donnell exited the show in February, just five months after returning to the series. Co-creator Barbara Walters departed last year, as did Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy — just a few of the names from the revolving daytime door.

There are still five weeks left in Season 18.
