KISS frontman Gene Simmons has finally married longtime partner Shannon Tweed. The ceremony took place in Beverly Hills over the weekend, and over 400 guests were in attendance. The duo have been together for 28 years and have two children together: Nick, 22, and Sophie, 19. Said Simmons: "I love Shannon with all my heart and all my soul, and always will."
But Simmons and Tweed are far from the first celeb couple to wed after a long relationship. Here are some of our favorite couples that took the long road to the altar.
1. David Letterman and Regina Lasko
The couple finally wed in 2009, after being together for 23 years. The ceremony took place in Montana, but the wedding almost didn't happen on time. The couple thought it would be fun to show up in a truck, but unfortunately, the vehicle got stuck in the mud. The couple have a son together, Harry Joseph Letterman.
2. Jewel and Ty Murray
Singer-songwriter Jewel Kilcher dated rodeo cowboy Ty Murray for a whole decade before the pair eloped during a tropical getaway in 2009.
"We'd been together 10 years, so I think the whole world was wondering what our problem was," she said. "But we're pretty thorough people...it was just something we wanted to make sure we got right. I don't think divorce was ever something we considered an option, so we really wanted to take our time and get to know each other. And it takes a long time to get to know people."
3. Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart
The man who played Han Solo and the woman who brought Ally McBeal to life were in a relationship for almost a decade before getting married in 2010. As an interesting side note, Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico performed the ceremony.
4. Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal
This celeb duo had been an item for 30 years, and had no plans to wed, per Farrah's wishes. That is, until Farrah was diagnosed with cancer. When he asked her to marry him, she said yes. Sadly, the couple never got a chance to exchange their vows, as Farrah's cancer took her before they could plan the wedding. But had she lived a little bit longer, there is no doubt they would have said, "I do" to marriage.
