The "American Idol" Top 2 has been revealed, and yes, it's a shocker. After an emotional week of hometown visits, Boston-area native Angie Miller was sent home just one week shy of the Season 12 finale, leaving Candice Glover and Kree Harrison to battle it out for the "American Idol" title.
For her final week on the "Idol" stage, Miller aptly belted out Elton John and Pink songs, but her decision to perform without her piano may have cost her. In-house mentor Jimmy Iovine said Miller missed her big "moment" when she chose to forgo the piano.
"Although it was great, it could have been that moment," Iovine said of her performance of the Elton John classic, "Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word."
After the elimination announcement was made, the pageant-perfect Miller cried as a montage of her "Idol" journey was shown, but it was her farewell song that was the real tearjerker. The 19-year-old could barely get through her rendition of "Idol" alum Colton Dixon's "Never Gone," delivering one of the most gut-wrenching goodbye performances in the history of the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller told reporters after the Top 3 results show, "It's bitter and sweet. I definitely thought that with the whole hometown visit and how huge social media has been … I did feel kind of confident that I was going to make it."
The Miley Cyrus lookalike also added, "I'm really excited to start because I know that I want to make albums and be on TV shows and acting and singing more original songs and everything … When I think of this whole experience and people ask me what's the best moment, it's when I was able to sing 'You Set Me Free,' my original song. That song and that moment will carry me on and I can't wait to record it."
While Angie Miller's elimination was shocking, it may have been overshadowed by the other big "Idol" news of the day: Longtime judge Randy Jackson revealed that he's leaving the show after next week's finale. The Dawg has been a judge on the show since its 2002 debut.
Earlier on Thursday, Jackson told E! News, "Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on 'American Idol' I have decided it is time to leave after this season. I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It's been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures."
Indeed, the end of Randy's reign on the show may be the most shocking elimination yet.
Speaking of judges, after Thursday night's show, tweeted a message to Angie Miller: "Angie u will be great with or without the Top2. Luv u babes!!!!!!"
The "American Idol" Season 12 finale airs May 15 and 16 on FOX.
