There are more than a few female stars who will be glad to see the end of 2011, and would probably like to forget some of their worst moments of the year, including a stint behind bars. Here is a look at five female celebrities who went to jail this year.
Actress Jaime Pressly didn't have the best start to her year. On January 5, the "My Name is Earl" star was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Santa Monica, California. She'd been stopped for a traffic violation, and was ultimately charged with driving while having a blood alcohol content of more than .20. The legal limit is .08.
The 34-year-old later plead no contest to the charges and was sentenced to three years of informal probation and ordered to attend a six-month alcohol education class. The Department of Motor Vehicles also required an ignition locking device be installed on her car.
Former Victoria's Secret model and "Planet of the Apes" star Estella Warren was arrested in May after she not only crashed into three parked cars, but she assaulted a police officer and even tried to escape once she was at the police station.
The 32-year-old was charged with suspicion of driving under the influence, felony battery on an officer, and finally a felony escape charge. In August, Warren was sentenced to serve four months in a residential rehab facility and five years of informal probation. She had been arrested for DUI previously in 2007. Let's hope this actress has learned her lesson, and the third time doesn't become the charm. She was lucky to not have to spend any significant time in a jail cell.
While Charlie Sheen has managed to stay out of handcuffs this year, his ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, has not. She was arrested in Aspen, Colorado just last Friday, December 2. The 34-year-old model was arrested on suspicion of felony cocaine possession and assault. The mother of two-year-old twin sons has been in and out of rehab in the past.
Environmental activist and "Kill Bill' actress, Daryl Hannah, was arrested for trying to make a difference in the world. While most Hollywood arrests seem to involve drugs or alcohol, the 50-year-old was handcuffed for her part in a demonstration at the White House this summer.
Hannah and the other protesters were trying to push the president to reject an oil pipeline project that would increase oil importation from Alberta, Canada. The star commented, "This pipeline would extend over the nation's largest freshwater aquafiers that 20 million people depend on for water." She paid a fine and was released.
How long has it been since actress Lindsay Lohan has not had a year where she spent some time in jail? Her latest incident was just last month when a judge sentenced her to 30 days for violating her probation terms. It was her fifth sentence since she was arrested twice for drunk driving in 2007.
Once again, the 25-year-old got lucky, as she only had to spend hours behind bars before being released due to jail overcrowding.
