Sofia Vergara is known for drawing attention to her curves by wearing form-fitting, cleavage-baring gowns, but she's discovered a clever way to keep eyes from wandering below her neckline.
According to the New York Post, Sofia revealed her style secret at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards. "I usually wear earrings, to draw attention up!" she explained. But Sofia doesn't just use earrings to distract from her curves. Last year she told InStyle this about her love of sparkly accessories: "When you have a beautiful pair of earrings, they can distract from a little bit of wrinkle in the eyes. A great necklace can distract from sun spots."
If Sofia has sun spots, it's likely that no one noticed them at the CFDAs -- her 400 carat emerald necklace by Lorraine Schwartz was definitely the focal point of a look that probably left a lot of ladies feeling green with envy. She paired the necklace with a green Hervé L. Leroux gown and, of course, a pair of emerald earrings. All of her jewelry was worth a whopping $5 million, but that's just the kind of money you have to spend to distract from a figure like hers.
Sofia is probably also a fan of accessories because they're a great way to change up her look since she usually wears a lot of gowns that look so similar. Here's what she said about why she sticks to one style: "People [say], 'Oh you always wear the same type of dress on the red carpet.' Of course! I'm not 20 years old. I know exactly what looks good on me now."
And speaking of Sofia Vergara's love of form-fitting dresses, one of her Madame Tussauds wax figures suffered a wardrobe malfunction when its Marchesa gown split at the seams. Sofia was in Times Square to unveil her two wax likenesses when the fashion failure temporarily derailed the event. Luckily, Sofia saved the day by finding a needle and thread and sewing the dress back together herself. She probably always keeps a sewing kit with her now after what happened at the Emmys last year -- the back of her mermaid gown also split at a seam in the back, and a member of her style team had to give the "Modern Family' star a quick stitch job to save her from flashing her thong to the crowd. Earrings probably wouldn't have distracted from that.
