Samsung Electronics just got a max contract in the National Basketball Association.
The NBA and Samsung have entered a deal for the electronics giant to supply the court-side monitors for referee use during the course of a game. The officials will also be armed with tablets.
Samsung would not disclose the financial terms of the deal, but The Wall Street Journal reports the figure is around $100M for three years.
The NBA will also offer a wide range of NBA content including NBA League Pass, daily video recaps of games, expert analysis and commentary and NBA TV’s NBA Inside Stuff.
The deal will extend to NBA properties the WNBA and the NBA Development League (D-League).
“More than ever, NBA fans are connecting with our game across mobile devices, tablets, and televisions, and Samsung’s world-renowned products will bring them closer to the game,” said Mark Tatum, NBA executive vice president, Global Marketing Partnerships.
Samsung has used the roundball game to promote its products in the past. Samsung pegged Miami Heat star LeBron James to endorse its Galaxy Note II smartphone last year.
Separately, former Brooklyn Nets part owner Jay Z (who had to give up his percentage to pursue a sports agency) teamed up with the brand while promoting his Magna Carta Holy Grail album. As part of that deal, Samsung agreed to purchase one million albums in advance for their smartphone users, which eventually granted the rapper’s record platinum status.
The professional basketball league previously had television and computer deals with Chinese appliance maker Haier Group and Hewlett-Packard.
