Ryan Reynolds Suited Up in First Official Deadpool Movie Image

Just in case those latest glimpses of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ weren’t enough for you, here’s another sneaky peek at one of 2016′s new big screen superheroes (if we can call him that), with the first official still from ‘Deadpool.’

Okay - so it isn’t exactly a revelation that this is what Marvel’s motor-mouthed mutant anti-hero looks like, but none of the photos we’ve seen thus far of Ryan Reynolds in costume were bona fide images from the movie itself.

The image premiered, ahead of the upcoming San Diego Comic Con, at Entertainment Weekly, who are absolutely on fire for first look photos in recent days, having brought us the ‘Batman V Superman’ photos and our first look at the cast of new TV series ‘Ash Vs Evil Dead’.

On top of this, EW grabbed a few words with Reynolds, producer Simon Kinberg and director Tim Miller - beginning with Reynolds offering his thanks to the unknown party who leaked 2011′s ‘Deadpool’ test footage online in 2014, resulting in a flurry of support which finally got the long in-development movie the green light from 20th Century Fox.

Reynolds says he wants to give this person a kiss: “And not just a little kiss, but full on the mouth, sloppy, with tongue, for two straight minutes on live television, without commercial interruption. And then I’ll buy you dinner at Red Lobster, at least, and dessert.”

A romantic vision to rival that of the image Reynolds posted online for Valentine’s Day, recreating Burt Reynolds’ Playgirl spread…

Kinberg (also writer and producer of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ and this summer’s ‘Fantastic Four’) took the opportunity to emphasise that, though part of the ‘X-Men’ universe, this will be the most mature film in the series to date.

While at first it was uncertain what rating ‘Deadpool’ would aim for, an eye-opening April Fool’s Day video (embedded below) confirmed it will be the first of Fox’s Marvel movies to aim for an R-rating in the US (meaning a 15 or 18 is likely in the UK).

“'Deadpool’ is a hard R. It’s graphic. Nothing is taboo. You either commit to a truly outrageous boundary-pushing kind of movie or you don’t.”

Debutante director Tim Miller further emphasises this adult-oriented vibe, likening ‘Deadpool’ to another much treasured adults only film:

“I felt ‘Fight Club’ and Tyler Durden were good corollaries. We are in strip clubs and dive bars and crappy apartments and far away from the shiny X-Men world.”

Currently in post-production, ‘Deadpool’ is scheduled to hit screens on 12 February 2016.
