Ryan Gosling is breaking hearts worldwide with his latest announcement that he's planning to take a break from acting.
"The Place Beyond the Pines" star thinks he's been "acting too much" and said in an interview on Wednesday that he plans to take a hiatus from his craft. "I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it." In his time away, he hopes to improve upon his already bright career. Gosling isn't the only star stepping out of the spotlight for a brief time. Check out these other celebs who've done the same.
Gosling's "Blue Valentine" co-star Michelle Williams had the same idea last month. On the heels of wrapping up "Oz the Great and Powerful," she claims that it's refreshing not to having any projects "looming" ahead. Although the fantasy film's heavy-hitting status at the box office is probably a great distraction from her recent breakup with beau, Jason Segel, stealing away from the spotlight couldn't have come at a better time.
Leonardo DiCaprio admits that he's literally winded from filming so many blockbuster films back-to-back. After working on Oscar-winning flick, "Django Unchained" Leo banked time on two other major blockbusters: "The Great Gatsby" and "The Wolf of Wall Street." If anyone in Hollywood needs a break from the big screen it's him. While he's taking a break from the big screen, the hot bachelor is turning his attention toward the environment and will be working on several charitable projects.
Slipping away from the limelight to satisfy a personal pursuit is a popular route for many actors. It appears that the hunky star of "Olympus Has Fallen" is following Leo's lead to do just that. But instead of diving into environmental work, he's headed to the other side of the camera as a producer. In addition, he'll carve out a little "me" time when he's not cavorting around Tinseltown with his latest lady love.
Idris Elba announced in early March that his passion for music has coaxed him away from acting. The "Luther" star spins tunes as DJ Driis and has worked with Jay-Z and is currently spinning at a London nightclub. What's next on his agenda? Elba plans to take a year off to do some recording.
Daniel Day-Lewis set a record as the only star to win an Academy Award for playing an American president in "Lincoln" and for winning the Best Actor award twice. Known for being somewhat of a recluse, he rarely comes out of hiding to entertain us with folly about his private life. So, we shouldn't be surprised that he's taking a long siesta following his recent Oscar win. Perhaps now he'll break character long enough to start playing himself.
