Pippa Will be There
Even when you're a duchess like Kate, it's not easy spending Christmas away from your family. But the royals live by tradition, and it's expected that senior members of the British royals spend Christmas at Sandringham House with the Queen.
But though this is usually an immediate-family affair, Kate's sister Pippa has been invited this year for December 26 (Boxing Day). "Usually Sandringham is reserved for members of the royal family and their spouses only," a royal insider shares. "The day after Christmas allowing Pippa to join the family is very unusual. The Queen's Norfolk estate is the most private club in the world." It's nice to see the royals perhaps learning from the loneliness and isolation felt by William's late mother, Princess Diana. "(Having Pippa visit on Boxing Day) is something William wanted for Catherine," the insider confirms.
It's customary for the royal family to celebrate Boxing Day with a pheasant shoot, and reportedly Pippa has been polishing up her shooting skills to be in top form.
What's that Glistening on the Tree?
To round out the couple's first married year, Royal Crown Derby has issued a commemorative tree ornament. The bauble features an entwined W and C, with the royal wedding date printed on the other side. The 22k gold finished decoration will set you back 85 pounds (about $130), but you wouldn't expect a royal ornament to show up at the dollar store, now would you? Perhaps several will be hanging on the Queen's tree ...
Bucklebury with the Middletons
The Christmas holidays won't be spent entirely with the royal family. In the days following Christmas, William and Kate will travel to Bucklebury, west of London, for a visit with Kate's parents, Mike and Carole Middleton. William is known to enjoy spending time with the Middletons, in their more relaxed environment.
New Year with Charles and Camilla
Christmas week will end with the royal coupleheading to Scotland, to Birkhall, the private residence of William's father, Prince Charles, and his wife, Camilla. No doubt the group will reflect on the momentous and successful year William and Kate have had.
What will 2012 bring? Olympic ambassadorship for the couple and continued military service for William; that's for sure. A baby? The world will be watching to see.
