Oprah Winfrey didn't celebrate her 60th birthday with a big blowout, although she certainly has the big bucks to do it. The media mogul, who turned the big 6-0 on Jan. 29, canceled her previous plans for a super-size party and went a little more low-key. At least for now.
Instead of an over-the-top star-studded bash, Winfrey invited 50 non-celeb pals to join her for a spin class followed by some snacks at Hollywood's Soul Cycle, according to People. An onlooker dished that the gang -- who all wore customized "Happy Birthday Oprah" T-shirts -- did a 45 minute class before noshing on candy, cupcakes and juice.
But while a spin class may be a healthy way to kick off a new decade, it's a far cry from Winfrey's previous birthday celebrations, which one year alone included a surprise party on her daytime talk show, as well as a luncheon and a black tie gala.
In an interview last year with "CBS This Morning," the talk show queen even dished that she planned to have "the biggest blowout party I can dream of" in celebration of her 60th. Us Weekly previously reported that the birthday bash was being planned by celeb party planner Colin Bowie, and the guest list would include A-list pals like Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, Bayonne, Tina Turner and, yes, the Obamas. So, why the change of plans?
According to E! News, the party was scrapped because the guest list was getting out of control. The OWN head honcho's BFF Gayle King added, "She's still trying to figure out what's the best way to celebrate."
Party or not, everybody deserves the perfect present on their big day.
King told E! News, "It's not like Oprah needs anything, but she loves all things, books…and she's a fan of cashmere. She has everything, but I don't care who you are, everybody likes a present."
But what do you buy for the person who has everything?
If you're looking for ideas, Oprah's good friend John Travolta once gave her a 1988 Rolls-Royce Corniche II Convertible. (She later auctioned it off for charity.) And for her 59th birthday, longtime pal Tyler Perry sent her a huge floral bouquet, but O hurt her back lifting it. (We guess every rose really does have its thorn!)
"It took me months to do that thing," DeGeneres joked, before revealing that shipping the piece would cost a fortune, so Oprah would have to come to her show to get it.
Happy Birthday, Oprah!
