No one can call Miley Cyrus a simple child star anymore. Not only is the "Hannah Montana" star engaged to actor Liam Hemsworth, but she is on her way to a strong career as a grown-up actress. The singer is about to begin a recurring run on the sitcom "Two and a Half Men," giving the 19-year-old her first major guest appearance on a TV sitcom. Miley will play a family friend of Ashton Kutcher's character for at least two episodes, and she figures to make a major impact early in the show's 10th season. With this guest spot, Miley becomes the latest former teen singer to appear as an adult on a hit sitcom. Here is a look at some of the other teen idols to make a similar career move over the years.
The blonde star never really made it as an actress, but she did give us one of the better guest appearances in recent sitcom history. At a time when her life was daily tabloid fodder, Britney appeared on "How I Met Your Mother" as Abby, a receptionist that becomes obsessed with Ted. She later reprises the role in an episode in which she and Barney team up to seek revenge against her former crush. She did a great job with the goofy character, and proved that she was professional enough to handle bigger TV work.
Mandy has transitioned from singing to acting better than most of her contemporary stars. After breaking out in the late 1990s as a singer, Mandy has built a pretty decent film career. She has also made a couple of memorable guest appearances on TV. Not only did she appear as Zach Braff's goofy love interest on "Scrubs," but she also played a major role during the second season of "Entourage." In addition to those meaty roles, Mandy also appeared as a tattooed girl in an episode of "How I Met Your Mother."
The NBC sitcom "Community" might struggle in the ratings, but it has landed some pretty impressive guest stars. In 2010, Hilary joined that list when she played the evil popular girl. Hilary must have studied "Mean Girls" in order to prepare for the role because she knocked the performance out of the park. She manages to bully nearly every character on the show, including the seemingly innocent Abed. After becoming a mom earlier this year, Hilary has plans to work on a new studio album as well as a TV pilot.
