All of the networks recently announced their fall line-ups. As usual there are big name stars like Kevin Bacon, who had series picked-up. But there are also the inevitable up-and-comers that are going to get a chance at primetime stardom. Among those is a young actor named Max Charles.
Max Charles Is About To Join the Ranks of Young Primetime Stars
Like Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould and Ariel Winter from "Modern Family," Charles is poised to become a household name when his new show "The Neighbors" premieres in the fall. And, coincidentally, his series will follow theirs on the ABC Wednesday night line-up.
But that's not all the young actor is up to. In a recent exclusive interview, he talked about his recent and upcoming projects.
Max Charles Has His Big Brother to Thank for His First Acting Break
Charles explained how he first got interested in acting, "My older brother was doing a tour and he was singing in that tour. And there was a producer that called him and asked him if he wanted to do an audition. And he did the audition and we were out there and I said to my mom, 'Can I please go in that room?' And she let me. I wound up booking something and that's how I started acting.'"
Not long after that Charles hit the big screen in the movie adaptation of "The Three Stooges." He recounted being in a scene with all three brothers, "In 'The Three Stooges' I got to be in a scene with them. And I love my brothers. They're so awesome."
Max Charles Has Three Big Projects in the Works
Now he's poised for not one big break but three. He's got three major projects in the works - "The Amazing Spider-Man," "The Neighbors" and "Mr. Peabody & Sherman."
Charles will portray the young Peter Parker in this summer's surefire hit "The Amazing Spider-Man." He talked about playing the childhood version of Andrew Garfield's character. "It's the first time that they've ever shown Peter Parker as a young boy and the parents. When I was two, my mom dressed me up as Spider-Man for Halloween for trick or treating. And I never knew that I was actually going to be Spider-Man."
Max Charles Will Star in the New Series 'The Neighbors'
In "The Neighbors," Charles will play the son of Debbie (Jami Gertz) and Marty (Lenny Venito) Weaver, a couple who move to a suburban gated community to give their family a better life. The Weavers soon learn that the residents of Hidden Hills, who all happen to have the names of pro-athletes, are actually aliens from the planet Zabvron.
Max Charles Lends His Voice to 'Mr. Peabody and Sherman'
And to top it all off, Charles is currently filming a 3D version of "Mr. Peabody & Sherman." The movie is based on segments from the animated series "Rocky and Bullwinkle" called "Peabody's Improbably History." He'll play a boy, Sherman, who time travels with a very wise talking dog, Mr. Peabody.
Charles described providing the voice for Sherman, saying, "They have me do tons of sounds like eating. And instead of faking it, they actually bring food into me in and have me eat doing those sounds. And I get to yell a lot… I get to scream a lot."
But long before the 2014 release of "Mr. Peabody and Sherman," Charles will be seen in the dramatic feature film "Least Among Saints" and then the thriller "Unstable" and sci-fi flick "White Space." He'll round out 2012 with the TV movie "Scent of the Missing."
"The Amazing Spider-Man" hits theaters on July 3, 2012.
"The Neighbors" will premiere this fall on ABC at 9:30 p.m. EST/8:30 p.m. Central on ABC following "Modern Family."
