For many people, Hollywood marriages are like reusable plastic lunch containers that are expected to disintegrate sooner versus later. But when two celebrities make it past the 20-year mark, it looks like they could be the exception. That's what Jane Seymour fans hoped for her marriage to James Keach, a romantic partnership launched with a fairytale wedding that signalled the thrice-divorced star had finally found a mate with whom she could live "happily ever after."
But with the couple now announcing they, too, are getting a divorce, it turns out the prince and princess may be happier living apart.
In an official statement that sounded as unromantic as a potato peeler, the 62-year-old's rep said, "They will continue their relationship as devoted parents to their children, as business associates and partners, and in their joint dedication to preserving and furthering the charitable endeavors that they've worked on throughout their marriage."
That's a stark contrast to their nuptials in Montecito in 1993, about which one tabloid reporter wrote, "Jane Seymour married her Prince Charming in the most romantic wedding ever!"
In what could best be described as Disney meets the Royal Wedding, the "Dr. Quinn" actress wore a dress designed by David Emanuel, the same man who designed Princess Di's wedding gown. Atop her head was a "tiny coronet of baby tea roses."
Further setting fairy tale expectations was an exchange during the ceremony in which the bride and groom expressed their mutual wish to die in each other's arms. In retrospect, that would have required the couple to pass away before the real world could pierce their impossibly romantic bubble.
If the rumors are true, the marriage -- at least in its latter years -- was more a tears-in-your-beer country song than pink-frosted fairy tale. Keach reportedly cheated on his wife.
"Jane and James have been having problems for years now, but she's finally had with his antics and kicked him out of the house a few weeks ago," a source told a celebrity website. "Some of her dearest friends have been warning her about James' wandering eye and rumored infidelity, but she never wanted to believe it."
Ironically, the beautiful British actress is the face behind the Kay Jewelers' Open Heart jewelry line that features two connected open hearts, an image designed to symbolize "love has no boundaries and flows unconditionally."
Whether or not the former Bond girl unconditionally loves her soon-to-be-ex-husband, she apparently no longer wants to live in the same house with him.
