There is a price to pay for higher education and actor James Franco is poised to pay up after one of his former professors filed suit against him.
"Whoever was in Clint Eastwood's chair at the Republican National Convention was more present than Mr. Franco was in my classes," says former New York University Professor Jose Angel Santana after filing suit against his former student.
The educator had previously filed a wrongful termination suit against NYU claiming that the university canned him after he gave their high profile student a nearly failing grade due to his poor attendance record. Santana is seeking unspecified damages.
The actor had responded to the news of the wrongful termination suit in the past by telling reporters, "I didn't feel like I needed to waste my time with a bad teacher…. No teacher will ever be fired from NYU for giving a student a D. He wasn't fired, he was asked not to come back after three years because they didn't think he was a good teacher."
With the filing of the lawsuit, the actor joins a legion of stars with their own dates at the courthouse. Here are some of the stars facing lawsuit woes:
Kris Humphries: He may be the ultimate jilted Kardashian husband having endured one of the shortest celebrity marriages on record, but the former Mr. Kim Kardashian has legal worries outside of his ongoing divorce / annulment battle with his former spouse. Just last week a woman named Kayla Goldberg filed suit alleging that the former reality tv beau knowingly gave her herpes during a one night stand in 2010.
William Shatner: Beam me up Scotty! The "Star Trek" star and his wife are being sued for allegedly harassing and beating two former employees. The couple, Oscar and Delmy Alfaro, worked as the couple's handyman and housekeeper until they were force to quit their jobs after working for the Shatners for twenty years. According to the suit, everything was wonderful until Oscar was injured on the job and refused to sign a waiver which led to systematic humiliation, embarrassment and mental anguish.
Chris Brown and Drake: It was reportedly an A-List smack down on June 14 when the two musical superstars crossed paths at a New York City nightclub. What followed was allegedly a fight meant for the big screen. According to the lawsuit filed by the club in Manhattan Supreme Court, Chris and Drake "shared a grudge against the other arising out of their romantic relationship with the same woman". The woman in question is reported to be none other than Brown's ex-girlfriend Rihanna. The fight left eight people injured and a pile of damages. The club is suing the two stars for $16 million dollars for their "gross negligence", "ultra-hazardous activity" and "intentional illegal acts".
Tony Parker: One of the party-goers injured in the Chris Brown and Drake club ruckus was the NBA star who is currently suing the club for $20 million after receiving a scratched retina in the fight. For his part, the basketball star accuses the club's security of negligence for allowing the feuding duo in at the same time knowing there was "bad blood between Drake and Brown" and they continued serving alcohol to all parties despite their visible intoxication.
