Halle Berry just joined a very exclusive club of mommies by getting knocked up at age 46 -- she's a member of a small group of celebrities that got pregnant more than once after age 40.
Halle and fiancé Olivier Martinez are reportedly expecting a baby boy, and it's safe to say that Nahla is excited to become a big sister since Halle said that her daughter's been praying for a sibling. Halle gave birth to 5-year-old Nahla when she was 42, and the actress and ex Gabriel Aubry have been engaged in an ugly custody battle ever since. Since a judge denied Halle's request to get away from all the drama by moving to France with Nahla and Olivier, the actress really needed this happy pregnancy news.
According to Us Weekly, here's what the actress told talk show host Wendy Williams about being glad that she waited until she was over 40 to become a mom: "I'm a much better mother at 46, or 41 when I had her, than if I were 21 or 25. I was just a little baby, just trying to figure it out, trying to figure out who I was, let alone have the responsibility of trying to help another little soul develop and grow. I'm so glad I waited."
Halle denied reports that she and Olivier Martinez know the gender of their child, and she also told CNN, "I thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it's been a big surprise and the most wonderful."
Halle Berry isn't the only star who was gifted with a pregnancy surprise more than once after age 40. Here's a look at a few other celebrities who gave birth to multiple children during their mid-life years:
This star of the comedy "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" suffered a very difficult pregnancy with life-threatening complications when she gave birth to son Holden at age 41. However, she and hubby Christopher Backus didn't let that pregnancy scare stop them from adding to their brood -- last year Mira gave birth to daughter Lucia at age 44. Mira and Christopher now have a grand total of four kids, so it's not surprising that the Oscar-winning actress decided to take a break from the spotlight.
Susan was 43 when she had her first son with her ex-partner Tim Robbins, and Jack was joined by brother Miles just two years later when she was 45. But this sexy star is someone who has always seemed much younger than her years -- Robbins was over a decade younger than her, and now the 66-year-old is dating her 33-year-old ping pong club business partner Jonathan Bricklin. Since her new beau isn't much older than her 28-year-old daughter Eva Amurri, it's not surprising that Susan once said this about the guys that she dates: "It took me a long time to understand that I didn't have to mother every guy I was with. When I stopped doing that, things got better."
But Susan's "Thelma & Louise" co-star has her beat when it comes to baby-making over age 40. When she was 46, she and her neurosurgeon hubby Reza Jarrahy welcomed a little girl named Alizeh. One child might seem like a handful for a mother approaching age 50, but Geena didn't stop there -- she gave birth to twin sons named Kian and Kaiis when she was 48. The 57-year-old celeb is happy with her decision to have kids later in life, telling Good Housekeeping magazine, "If I'd had kids earlier, I could easily have become one of those mothers who over-involve themselves and try to live life through their kids. I'm sure there are younger people who have figured things out long before I did, but in my case, I became a parent with exactly the right person at exactly the right time."
But this "Malcolm in the Middle Mom" has all these ladies beat -- she gave birth at ages 42, 44, and 47. She and ex-hubby Bradley Whitford gave their kids the nice, normal-sounding names Frances, George, and Mary. Jane says that she actually enjoys being a single mom, but she suffered one major consequence of having kids so late in life -- the 57-year-old developed such bad arthritis after her last pregnancy that she had to have her hip replaced.
So do you think these celebs are crazy for having multiple kids after age 40, or are they an inspiration for other women who are holding off on having children?
