Giuliana Rancic continues to bravely face her battle with breast cancer in the public eye. The celebrity journalist announced on "The Today Show" that she will undergo a double mastectomy. Her husband and reality TV co-star Bill Rancic was by her side as she shared the latest news on her ongoing fight.
Giuliana joins several stars who have faced breast cancer. She told host Ann Curry, "At the end, all it came down to was just choosing to live, and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life. That's really what it came down to." The surgical removal of both breasts is a bold choice and follows a lumpectomy that was unable to rid her body of the dreaded disease.
Before the cancer fight came to the forefront, Giuliana's only public challenge was her yearning to be a mother. About the cancer, Bill lovingly told G, "I just need you around for the next 50 years, kid. I don't care what you look like, I don't care about the physical portion of this, I just need you around for the next 50 years. So, let's just get you healthy."
Other Stars Who Have Battled Cancer
Although Christina kept us yucking it up as dumb blond Kelly Bundy on 80s sitcom "Married With Children," her bout with cancer was no laughing matter. Sadie Grace's mom also opted for a double mastectomy, Rancic's treatment of choice. Christina has reached out to the former Miss DePandi in a show of star support.
Sykes is not someone we are used to seeing in a serious mode. The no-nonsense lesbian comic has become a marriage equality activist in recent years, by default, but she always manages to keep us smiling. When Wanda announced her cancer battle on "Ellen" the comedian had already undergone a double mastectomy.
Luckily Giuliana can afford the best in health care but this does not mean that she is out of the woods. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this difficult time.
We're rooting for you, Giuli!
