“The Americans” will be back for its second season on Feb. 26, FX announced.
The show’s premiere on Jan. 30, 2013 stands as FX’s most-watched drama debut ever, drawing 5.1 million viewers.
The show, recently named one of AFI’s Programs of the Year, stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, Soviet spies in Ronald Reagan’s America. Their neighbor, FBI agent Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), has almost figured out their secret — but he’s distracted by Soviet double agent Nina (Annet Mahendru).
Currently in production in New York, the show will focus in its second season on the complications in the Jennings’ arranged marriage — including Philip marrying another woman to protect one of his undercover identities. Beeman is torn between Nina and his wife Sandra (Misner). And the Jennings’ children are becoming more suspicious of their parents.
Created and executive produced by Joe Weisberg (“Falling Skies”), a CIA agent turned writer, the series is produced by Fox Television Studios and FX Productions. Joel Fields and Graham Yost also executive producer, along with Daniel Sackheim and Amblin Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.
