Demi Lovato Responds to Pink's VMAs Diss: My Past Songs Have Helped People

Pink might have claimed she meant no shade at Demi Lovato when she criticized a number of artists who performed at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, but obviously, the former Disney star took it personally.

The "Cool for the Summer" singer responded in a series of tweets on Friday, defending her sassy performance of the summer jam.

It all started when 35-year-old Pink wrote that she "felt embarrassed and sad" by what she saw at the VMAs on her private Instagram account. "But in all seriousness; I felt sad because music is supposed to inspire. It saved my life. This trash won't save any kid's life. In a world that is even scarier and with lives still worth saving, who will stand up and have soul? Disenfranchised to say the least," she wrote.

"Let down by my industry peers," the "Just Give Me A Reason" singer added. "Besides Macklemore and Pharrell and Bieber (pre-sob fest) and The Weeknd, Tori Kelly was dope too. The rest was gross and embarrassing and hard for this aging pop star to believe."

The always outspoken Demi, of course, had plenty to say about not making it on Pink's good list.

"Cool For The Summer may not "save kids' lives" or "inspire" but I'd say Skyscraper & Warrior have done a pretty good job of helping people cope with mental illness," Demi tweeted on Friday morning. "VMAs are sexy and fun. There's a time and place for everything."

"I'm excited for you all to hear the inspirational/honest/soulful songs on this album," she added. "I'm learning so much every day by this new chapter in my life. I'm no longer the victim. I am the survivor. What's wrong with being #Confident?"

Demi's tweets come after Pink insisted on Thursday that she was not calling out the 23-year-old pop star.

"Please look for a feud elsewhere. I have no issue with Demi Lovato or anyone else," Pink tweeted. "I actually forgot she performed. I have opinions. MANY."

"I stand by what I said," she added, not backing down from her original comments. "However, I didn't intend for the angry people of the world to latch on and make it into something it isn't. Peace."

Though is the fact that she pretty much called Demi's performance forgettable its own underhanded shade?

Demi actually brought out her good friend, rapper Iggy Azalea, as a surprise in the performance on Sunday, who faced a whole lot of her own haters on the Internet. Watch the video to see Iggy's amazing response to those trashing her brief VMAs appearance.
