It's that time of year again-that time between "Dancing With the Stars'" hiatus and the official announcement about the upcoming season's cast.
While ABC won't officially announce the "DWTS" Season 14 cast until later this winter, spoiler sites are leaking clues as to who might be tripping the light fantastic this spring!
But last season's emotional ride by champion J.R. Martinez will be a tough act to follow. Producers certainly have their work cut out for them this season!
So who are the stars at the top of the "Dancing With the Stars" rumor mill?
Regis Philbin has been part of the "DWTS" most wanted list for a while now-- and now that he has officially stepped down from his long running morning show, he'd actually have the time for the grueling rehearsal schedule. Last May the former "Live With Regis and Kelly" star even confirmed that he had been approached to be a contestant on the show (co-host Kelly Ripa even quipped that she'd pay to see him in spandex!). But, alas, Reeg also said the training would be too much for him!
Back in October, celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton reported that "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Taylor Armstrong was "super close" to signing a deal with "DWTS." But Radar Online dissed the story, citing a show insider who said "there is no truth whatsoever" to the rumor. Recently, Hollywood Life recirculated the rumor -- and gave Regis a plug, too -- quoting an insider at the show as saying, "We would love to have the drama and emotion that Taylor Armstrong would bring to the show and counter that with the lovability that Regis Philbin has given audiences for decades."
Every "DWTS" season needs a professional athlete -- and this season will be no exception! Arizona Cardinals safety Kerry Rhodes recently tweeted, "should i do dancing with stars?? i have been asked. wat u think?" In the next tweet he clarified, "I have been asked b4!" So the question remains: has Rhodes actually been invited to sign up for the upcoming season or is he just pondering what might have been?
Actor Ryan O'Neal had been slated to compete on "DWTS" Season 13, but had to bow out due to an injury (Carson Kressley was a last minute replacement.) But O'Neal recently told Pet Life Radio that he will be appearing on Season 14 of the show -- following a knee replacement surgery. O'Neal's daughter, Tatum O'Neal, competed on Season 2 of "DWTS."
And could comedian Paul Reubens (alter ego: wacky kiddie show host Pee-Wee Herman) really be trading in his trademark white shoes for a pair of dancing shoes? According to a PerezHilton.com source it may be true. The insider said, "Pee Wee Herman signed with "DWTS' for next season. He has been back stage twice watching the show this season. I personally heard him say he was vying for a spot next season."
"Dancing with the Stars" Season 14 premieres on March 19 on ABC.
