Alongside Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio, Simon Cowell attended The Television Critics Association Press Tour in Beverly Hills on August 1. But before they could talk about season three of The X Factor, Cowell addressed rumors that he'd impregnated a friend's wife.
When asked if the pregnancy was as much of a surprise to him as it was to us, Simon joked, "I haven't read the newspapapers, am I missing something?" of reports that he and New York socialite Lauren Silverman are having a baby, despite the fact that Silverman is married to Cowell's pal Andrew Silverman.
He then added, "I appreciate the question. Unfortunately I have to keep this, for the moment, private. it's just one of those things."
During the session, Simon also said he has no plans to return to American Idol should The X Factor not score a season four renewal. He also revealed that the ultimate prize was decreasing from $5 million to $1 million. And that's not the only change coming in season three!
Executive producers Rob Wade and Andrew Llinares revealed to ETonline that the entire format of the show will be changing! "We love the audition shows and we love the live shows, but we felt like the middle bit took too long, so we're doing a brand new thing in the middle that will involve all the judges," Llinares told me of completely eliminated the Boot Camp and Judges Home rounds.
This new mystery stage is still designed to whittle down the contestant pool to four person per judge. "It's about focusing on the contestants so we don't lose people in these huge eliminations," Llinares added.
To that end, the EPs are also tweaking the live rounds to place more of an emphasis on the singers by reducing the giant productions around each performance. "We love production and don't want to lose production on the show, but it's something you'll see gradually build up over the weeks," Wade revealed. "This way the contestants' journey to being -- and looking like -- a superstar will happen slowly over the weeks now."
The X Factor premieres September 11 on Fox.
