It looks as though Chris Pine has finally been confirmed for ‘Wonder Woman’, after much speculation that he may have been offered a role.

According to The Wrap, the 34-year-old ‘Star Trek’ actor has signed a deal to appear as Steve Trevor in the upcoming ‘Wonder Woman’ movie.

“Chris Pine has closed a deal to play Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot in ‘Wonder Woman’,” they revealed. “Pine joins the DC Movie Universe in a multi-picture deal that includes sequel options, according to insiders.”

Of course, Pine had been rumoured for the role of Steve Trevor for some time, but amidst speculation that he may also be linked to the Green Lantern movie, it looked as though he may have been signing up to play iconic DC hero, Hal Jordan.

“There had been speculation that Pine was up for a role in WB’s upcoming ‘Green Lantern Corps’ and that the ‘Wonder Woman’ rumors were just a smokescreen, but that particular popular fanboy theory proved to be unfounded.”

Instead, it seems that Pine has landed the role of Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Trevor. Known in the comic books as an intelligence officer for the US Army Air Corps, his plane crashed on the mysterious Paradise Island… where he was nursed back to health by Wonder Woman herself.

But that doesn’t mean he’s just a love interest…

“Steve Trevor will be no mere love interest for Gadot’s Diana Prince, as there will be plenty of action to keep him busy, though plot details remain under wraps.”

If you ask me, it sounds as though Steve Trevor will fill a role similar to Marvel’s Agent Carter – a love interest for the main hero, but no mere civilian. Instead, it sounds as though Chris Pine will be getting his fair share of the action… and that sounds like a good call to me.

‘Wonder Woman’ stars Gal Gadot as the iconic DC superhero. Written by Jason Fuchs and directed by Patty Jenkins, the project will be also be produced by Zack and Deborah Snyder.

‘Wonder Woman’ heads to cinemas on 23 June 2017.
