Everyone knows Prince Charles is a cold fish, and Camilla, as his former mistress, is bad news. Those may be the stereotypes, but Charles and Camilla blew them out of the water on Prince William and Kate's wedding day. Charles and Camilla were charming, loving, and supportive during the ceremony.
Prince Charles, Supportive Dad
Prince Charles and wife Camilla arrived at Westminster Abbey for the wedding shortly after 10 a.m. Charles greeted other family members entering the abbey with a handshake and a broad smile. Charles appeared happy and relaxed throughout the ceremony, and his pride in both William and Harry were apparent. Despite the tumult of his years with Diana, he has raised two young men who appear to be fine royal family members, and more important, caring human beings.
Camilla, Step-Mom Extraordinaire
It can't be easy being the groom's stepmother at any wedding, particularly in Camilla's case. She's well known to have carried on an affair with Prince Charles while William's mother, Princess Diana, was still alive. But Camilla charmed us at William and Kate's wedding. She dressed tastefully, in a champagne colored silk dress by Anna Valentine, who also designed the dress she wore for her wedding to Prince Charles. Neutral Jimmy Choo pumps and an enormous hat complete her look, and her smiles throughout the morning showed us her pleasure over the match between William and Kate.
Camilla, also known as the Duchess of Cornwall, is affectionate toward both William and Kate. We can't help wondering whether she is thinking that she and Charles could have been just as happy had they married each other originally rather than other partners.
Camilla had more than just a stepson to look after during the wedding; her three-year-old granddaughter, Eliza Lopes, was a bridesmaid. Both Charles and Camilla could be seen speaking with little Eliza on the Buckingham Palace balcony following the ceremony. Oh, the stories Eliza will have to tell one day!
Charming Charles and CamillaCharles and Camilla kept their presence low-key for William and Kate's wedding. By staying in the background, they charmed us with their love for the couple. The day belonged to William and Kate, and Charles and Camilla played their roles to perfection by simply showing up and beaming with pride.
