New York is bracing for another big event. This time it isn't Sandy who is taking the Big Apple by storm, but the annual New York Marathon that is set to bring a flurry of activity to the city.
When it comes to the annual race, there is always a flood of stars who trade in the red carpet for pounding the pavement in sneakers. For this year's race there are approximately twenty stars of varying degrees who have signed up to run in the ING New York City marathon this weekend.
Here are some of the stars who are signed up to slip on their sneakers and race for glory:
Christy Turlington: The model mom of two will be running in the race for the second time as a benefit to the organization Every Mother Counts. Of her decision to run, she said on "Today" earlier this month, "The marathon has been one way for us to communicate one of the biggest barrier, which is distance. 26.2 is a typical distance a woman has to drive, but a simple 5-K is normal for a woman to have to walk while pregnant or in labor."
Jonny Lee Miller: The "Elementary" actor will be trading in his inner sleuth to strap on his sneakers as part of the Every Mother Counts team for the New York City Marathon. This will be his second time in the annual event having run the race in 2010 with his "Dexter" co-star Jennifer Carpenter.
Jennifer Carpenter: The actress is another addition to team Every Mother Counts. After running the race in 2010, she's ready to hit the streets saying, "I'm training for the New York marathon. On the weekends you can just hole up and do nothing, and then you're whole life is about work, so I'm trying to get out of my house. I run."
Andrew Firestone: The former "Bachelor" is more than a pretty face! For this year's marathon, he's slipping on his sneakers to run as part of the Grassroot Soccer Marathon team. The organization seeks to to educate one million boys and girls in HIV and AIDS prevention education and life skills. It was originally co-founded by "Survivor" alumnae Ethan Zohn, who is unable to run this years as he recovers from treatment for Holdgkins lymphoma.
