The 2012 Academy Award nominations were announced Tuesday morning in Los Angeles and, of course, there were surprises and snubs among the big categories like "Best Picture."
Two of the hottest young male stars in the game - "Shame" star Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling - were both snubbed for "Best Male Actor" for their respective films. Gosling starred in three strong films over the past year, including "Drive" and "The Ides of March." Still, no Oscar love.
Angelina Jolie was also shut out for "Best Picture" honors for her directorial debut in "In the Land of Blood and Honey."
Still, there was plenty of joy to go around after the announcements. How did some of the big nominees react? With plenty of humility and humor.
"The Help" star Octavia Spencer was pretty much a shoe-in for a "Best Supporting Actress" nod after she won the Golden Globe for her role in the film.
"It's numbing! There were no guarantees," she said after the announcement. "I didn't think I was in it and then they said my name and it was just a sigh of relief."
So, what will she wear for the big night? Something that doesn't show off too much skin.
"I want to accentuate the positive, which would be cleavage -- even though it's saggy cleavage, it's cleavage! -- and give myself an hourglass," she told People.
Jonah Hill was more than a little floored when he got nominated for "Best Supporting Actor" for his role in "Moneyball."
"To have this kind of recognition -- it means I should do more dramas," Hill joked. "I don't know if there could be a bigger sign. I was nervous at the Golden Globes, but my category was [early], so I lost right away and then I was able to have a great time. So, hopefully, I can just lose right away again."
You deserve the nomination, Jonah.
Hill's co-star in "Moneyball" was also nominated for "Best Actor" for his role in the film. However, the father of six had breakfast on the brain. The film - along with Pitt's other work "Tree of Life" -- were both nominated for "Best Picture."
"I am dizzy with joy… and caffeine. Considering both films,'Moneyball' and 'The Tree of Life', nearly didn't make it to the screen, this is especially sweet," he said. My congratulations to all the nominees… pancakes for everyone!"
