Carrie Underwood hasn't forgotten how important it is to give back, and she does it big.
The "American Idol" alum donated $1 million to the Red Cross to help Oklahoma tornado relief efforts, just months after she donated all proceeds and profits from her Atlantic City show to victims of Hurricane Sandy.
In a statement, she explained, "I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness. With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornadoes."
Several other celebs stepped up to help those in Oklahoma.
Country stars come together
Some big name country stars have come together to put on the "Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert," which will air live on May 29 at 9 p.m. on NBC. Money raised will go toward the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund. Spearheading the event is Blake Shelton with Rascal Flatts, Luke Bryan, Vince Gill, Reba McEntire, and Miranda Lambert also performing.
On May 21, in response to a MTV News tweet that read, "Beyoncé, Rihanna & Katy Perry send prayers to #Oklahoma#PrayForOklahoma," the comedian stated, "I feel like an idiot now...I only sent money." The next day he followed it up by tweeting, "The best way to help the disaster victims is to donate at http://redcross.org or text REDCROSS to 90999. #ActuallyDoSomethingForOklahoma."
The funnyman donated $200,000 to the American Red Cross. He had his own experience with a tornado, albeit a long time ago, as he told EOnline, "When I was four, I moved from Michigan to Arizona and our house got hit by a tornado a week later. Always been scared of them. I know the Red Cross will do everything they can to help people get the help they need."
The Oklahoma City Thunder small forward donated $1 million to relief efforts, which spurred others to donate as well. In response, the Thunder organization matched his donation as did the NBA. Nike then stepped up and donated $1 million worth of apparel and are donating profits from Durant's Oklahoma City KD V Elites sold between May 23 and July 15 to Kaboom as well as the Moore Public School Foundation.
