Last week, pop sensation Britney Spears added another glorious nugget to her ever growing list of recent accomplishments: she is now engaged to her former manager and boyfriend of two years Jason Trawick. This will be the third time down the aisle for Spears; she was previously married to friend Jason Alexander (not the "Seinfeld" guy) for 55 hours, as well as Kevin Federline, who is the father of Spears' two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
Federline has reportedly given his blessing of the upcoming nuptials, however, Alexander is not exactly happy about the whole thing. In fact, Alexander reportedly believes that Spears is using the whole engagement as a vehicle for financial gain and to please the courts. Spears is currently under conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears.
Whether or not the recent engagement of Spears and Trawick being the real deal or simply a sham is really only known to the couple; however they are not the only celebrities to have been accused of using marriage for financial gain. Recent celebs (as well as some legendary entertainers) have also seen their nuptials go through the magnifying glass of a skeptical public. Some might have deserved it, while others might have actually married for love. You be the judge.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
Perhaps if some of the footage from Kim's reality show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" had hit the airwaves sooner, people might not have been so quick to judge her blink and you missed it marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries. Then again, the quick 72-day turnaround time probably still would have raised some eyebrows, as well as the need to share your lavish special day with family, friends and about 9 million viewers. Next time Kim should leave the cameras at home, and then maybe people will believe that she married for love and not money or attention.
Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley
Though the King of Pop and Elvis Presley's daughter famously tried to cement their nuptials with a kiss during the MTV Video Music Awards, many still felt that that the newlyweds were simply trying to cover up the many supposed skeletons in Michael Jackson's closet. In theory, their marriage would have made the perfect cover, especially with the accusations of child molestation surfacing shortly after their private ceremony. Despite it all, Lisa Marie recently admitted that couple tried to make the relationship last for four years after their divorce, showing that perhaps their really was some love amidst the speculation.
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore
Now don't take this the wrong way; for a while (they were wed for six years) it really did seem that the duo were really in it for love. Plus, any ill musings might have been unfairly based on the couples age difference, with Moore being fifteen years older than Kutcher. However, now that recent speculations have come into light, such as a cheating scandal and alleged talk of Moore's increasing insecurities regarding their age, people will probably begin to question just what kind of motives the "Two and a Half Men" star and the former Mrs. Bruce Willis truly had.
Do you believe these celebs (or any for that matter) married for love?
