Jimmy Kimmel really wanted to know Barbara Walters' least favorite View co-host during her 17-year reign on the morning show, but the veteran TV personality was predictably diplomatic during a Monday Nov. 18 chat on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "I don't like any of them," Walters, 84, said.
Kimmel rattled off a list of departed View hosts -- Meredith Vieira, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell, Joy Behar, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd, Lisa Ling, Elizabeth Hasselbeck -- to help Walters hone in on her "least favorite." Walters responded, "They've all done very well after they've left… I love them all."
A determined Kimmel then gratuitously left her with two options: O'Donnell and Jones, who both left under less-than-amiable circumstances. The former face of 20/20 -- bursting out in laughter -- responded, "I think that could be a most interesting show." She jokingly added, "Yes, they're both sort of laid-back and quiet and easygoing."
(The feuds between various View hosts have become somewhat legendary over the years: O'Donnell and former host Hasselbeck -- now with Fox -- got into a big on-air, screaming match in 2007. Jones, one of the original four hosts of the show, got into a spat with Walters following her 2006 live announcement that she was leaving. The rift intensified in 2008 when Walters released her book, which included admissions of an old affair and detailed her falling out with Jones -- who exclusively retorted to Us Weekly, "It speaks to her true character.")
Despite the rocky history with both O'Donnell and Jones, Walters quipped to Kimmel, "They are very talented women." She gently added, "I happen to be fond of both of them."
Walters announced on The View this past May she planned to retire in summer 2014 after 50 years on air. "The View was my creation," chirped the ABC News staple. "I wanted to show that women did like each other and women could talk to each other."
