Avril Lavigne better start penning her next hit song "H8ter Boi," a tune dedicated to everyone who can't stand the man she's engaged to.
Avril's fans and everyone who still secretly loves Nickelback were probably shocked to discover that the pop punk rocker chick is set to wed Chad Kroeger, frontman for the Canadian band that the Internet loves to hate. The couple has been secretly dating for six months, but why have they kept their romance under wraps? Avril didn't really try to hide her previous relationship with reality show star Brody Jenner, after all. Perhaps this time it has taken her a little time to get over the embarrassment of being linked to a man that has inspired animosity in the hearts of so many.
Avril seems like a tough girl, so hopefully she knows what she's getting herself into. And if not, all it takes is a quick Google search to see just how much the Internet hates Kroeger and his band. Here's a look at some of the ways the web has shown its hatred of Nickelback:
A pickle poll
Maybe Avril would be better off snacking on Snooki's favorite treat than she'll be letting Chad smash a slice of pink and black wedding cake decorated with skulls into her face. In 2010 an Internet prankster started a Facebook poll to see who could get more fans, a pickle or Nickelback. The band's haters were so determined to send the group a message that they managed to get the pickle 1.4 million fans, topping the band's 1.38 million. Hopefully Chad didn't feel too sour about the insult.
Football fans try to ban Nickelback from halftime appearance
At the end of 2011, some Nickelback haters started a petition to keep the band from playing at the Detroit Lions vs. the Green Bay Packers Thanksgiving Day game. The petition got over 50,000 signatures, but unfortunately the group played anyway. Sadly these anti-celeb petitions just don't seem to work - the online movement to kick Kim Kardashian off TV has also failed.
A really detailed death hoax
Some daydreaming Nickelback detractor even tried to kill Kroeger off by starting a rumor that he "died while vacationing in the Turks and Caicos after allegedly hitting a concrete boat slip while he was on his Jet Ski." Later Kroeger joked about his death on Twitter by referencing another celeb death hoax involving Jon Bon Jovi. At least now he can say he has something in common with the talented "Runaway" rocker.
So do you think that complicated sk8r chick Avril could actually give Chad more street cred? And is it scarier that these two are engaged or that they met while writing songs together?
