Apple revealed new versions of its MacBook Pro laptop line, Mac Pro desktop towers and iPads on Tuesday.
Perhaps the most anticipated upgrade was retina displays on the iPad minis, and that’s exactly what Apple delivered. The new retina display mini will go on sale in late November, boasting upgraded internal hardware.
The mini’s big, older brother, the iPad, got a refresh as well: the iPad Air, which has the same screen size as the non-Air iPad, but is thinner and lighter, with improved camera and battery life.
“It blows everything away,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.
They’ll also replace iPad’s last new generation, the iPad 3, much like the iPhone 5c and 5s replaced the iPhone 5. They go on sale Nov. 1.
On sale immediately are the new MacBook Pros with “retina” displays, which were given more consumer-friendly prices and internal graphics and processing upgrades. Both the 13 and 15 inch models are also slimmer and lighter than the previous versions.
The Mac Pro, Apple’s desktop tower that remain its most powerful (and expensive) product, was also given big power and graphics boosts. It was also, finally, given a release date: December.
There was no mention of upgraded iPods, something that had been hoped for, but not highly expected. Also MIA: the long awaited Apple TV or the rumored larger iPhone.
